These are the ideas that make us tick, the ideas that drive us, and the goals we have for freescreencast.com:
- Freedom: We believe in the generalized concept that information wants to be free. We believe in the potential of open source. We also believe in competition based on freedom, not lock-in.
- Available to everyone: Screencasting is a powerful medium for a message. We believe in the potential of screencasting. Screencasting should be available to the masses, for free.
- Sharing: We will provide three methods of sharing:
- Make your screencast hosted and public on freescreencast.com, and it can also be embedded on any other website, including your own. Right now, this can be done.
- Make your screencast hosted and private on freescreencast.com. You’ll be able to send people an obfuscated url to view the screencast (just like Jing operates right now).
- Make your screencast hosted and private on freescreencast.com, and pay a small fee. You can share the screencast via an obfuscated url or host it in your own site.
The primary thing to take away from that list is this: if you share your screencast with the world, allow the information to be ‘free’, then we’ll host it for you forever, for free.
- Library of knowledge: We are creating a vast library of deep knowledge. The screencasts on mathematics serve as a great example of deep content that will stay relevant and meaningful.
- Functionality: We compete on capabilities. Our clients will use freescreencast.com because it is the best product to meet their needs.
- Community: We want to integrate with services, such as Moodle to provide enhanced capabilities while providing the same sense of freedom.
